Paper 53 is a new drawing/sketching app for the iPad. It sets itself apart by being religiously simple to use. Each sketchbook can be pinched open, each page in the book can become full screen also by a pinch, and then you are ready to draw! The tools are reduced to one tool, unless you want to spend some cash to release the other tools. At first I thought it was an annoying way of doing it, but now I like the idea that I only buy the tools that I need. I am just left thinking that if I really enjoy the app, then there is no way that I will not end up owning all the tools… Cleaver…

In super8 meeting yesterday, we shot a “Please turn off your mobile phone”-spot… mostly just for kicks, but of cause we’ll use it when we do screenings of our films…
It was a pretty rock n’roll kinda shoot, so it is possible that it turned out like crap, but atleast we had some awesome technicians working the equipment, so it’s gonna look awesome

I’ve had this app, penultimate, for a week now and it is awesome!

I am always making notes and sketching, but I also have to face the digital age, and that’s where this wonderful app comes in. With export possibilities for photo library, Evernote, the cloud, Dropbox, and of cause emailing options…

It also got lots of options for backgrounds, such as lined paper, musical notation etc. also the fact that you collect your sketches in virtual notebooks that allow reordering to your hearts content.

The Golden Hummingbird now has a DEADLINE!

12 november 2010 !

We submitted the film for the Århus Filmfestival, so now it better be finished by then. I’m not too worried though, I have some great and talented guys working hard on finishing the fx for the film. Right now we are doing the final compositing, assembling the backgrounds, the animation (2D and 3D), as well as all the greenscreen footage of Hanne into shots. We’re almost done!
Soon we will bring the film into Sound Post where we will be creating the sound environment for the animated parts and giving the real environments that little extra something.

We are also having a little more music done for the film. Snævar is working on two small pieces of music for the film – can’t wait to hear them.

We had some problems with workflow concerning the 3D animated hummingbird, which has now been solved, and the bird should be rendered and ready for compositing in a week or so.

All in all, it has never been going THIS fast with the production in the 2.5 years its been going on!

Just found these and thought I would share. They are very old sketches and wallpapers, as well as some of my first attempts with 3D MAX.

This is an old sketch, I was really into Blimps and Airships once, always thought of that epic scene when a big city would be attacked by an army of airships.

Was working with a friend, Simon Falkentorp, at one point a few years. He had written a great story for a short, but epic, animated short film. I think we worked for quite a while on the elements – Storyboard, character development etc. before we each went each our own way with work and other projects. Could be fun to revisit though

I It seems to take FOREVER when I’m doing ANYTHING with lights – I just can’t help myself ;-(
Here I have been making lots of weird objects, for fellow C4D playmates: Metaballs with deformation textures, tracer of a cloner object in motion, and then a bunch of luminous materials… 30 min+ for the irradiance cache so far!

The Golden Hummingbird: Lot’s of Keyframes

Sometimes the guys have to add a fuck load of keyframes! Frederik is adding a layer of animation on top of Teddy’s walk-cycle, it’s tracking the character to Hanne is the shot. Some shots we just animate the characters static, and the movement can be tracked from the shot, and in others the best option still is to hand track it along with the animation.

This little video shows some of the elements that we are compositing at the moment. As shots are animated, we quickly have a look at what the final thing will look like, and use the shots in the edit. Here is the “animated world” intro shot as a quick composite. This was mainly to try our goal with a nice long camera move and end up on the characters. The second shot is a short clip with The Ninja Rabbit, strutting his stuff on the bridge.

Hi all,

No I’M NOT DEAD, and I haven’t forgotten about my blog either. Just, as usual, been very busy.
I have been working on post production on my current film since feb ’09, and we’re finally going to see the end of it, but more about that later. At the moment I’m taking a well earned break from work and I’m enjoying a nice road-trip holiday with my girlfriend. Right now we’re in Amsterdam, and tomorrow we’ll be going to Brussels where we will be joining some friends. On tuesday we will be going to Paris to spend the rest of our holiday.

Monome ROCKS!

Just ordered my very own Monome. For you who don’t know what a monome is, it’s acutally very very simple:
A Monome is a box with a whole bunch of buttons on it… but wait theres more! The buttons LIGHT UP!

That’s it. Basicly the Monome is a tool for musicians, VeeJays and anyone who needs something to communicate with their computer for live performance. Usually people like us have to go and get some other kind of input device (midi, osc etc.) ie. I currently use a drum synth to control my Visuals. The Monome allows you to get all the buttons you need and since they light up, you can use them for toggle or other kinds of visual feedback.

Los Marachas is one of the best live bands I know. Just simply because it’s either you were there or you weren’t sort of experience. It’s never the same, but you won’t ever get disappointed since the band is the perfect mix of jokes, mayhem, chaos and awesome improvised instrumental post rock!!!!

Yay, a new year. Well there can’t be any better new years resolution like picking up on your blogging??? I’ll dive right into it. Last year was tough, but with the shooting of The Golden Hummingbird(Den Gyldne Kolibri) and getting a kick ass job everything turned out well enough in 2008.

The last few weird post with vimeo videos has been because I’ve been doing a lot of experimentation with I/O and veejaying. I’ve hooked my wiimotes up to it, both the usual way and the johnny chung lee way, and I have used OSC apps with on my iPod Touch also, to manipulate stuff on the screen. I have even been making simple gestures working as a part of my veejaying. And as you can hear, I’m quite taken with it.

The reason for vimeo is that it’s the best place on the web that I’ve dealt with HD. It isn’t true FULL HD, but just the small version, but boy o boy does the difference show! I discovered, while researching various veejays and video artists on the web, that a lot of the really cool guys hang out at vimeo. The video on YouTube just doesn’t even get close to making a decent rendition of what most of these guys do. There is too much details, particles, and very high frame rates. Vimeo fixes this, you have lot’s more options on how to present your video and they do an awesome job of compressing it. www.vimeo.com

The Golden Hummingbird – Day 3

Today we shot one of the big fx scenes and we had the weather on our side, no rain what so ever! We had blue skies and sunshine, just as it was written in the script. We shot some more great dolly shots and it looks as if it is truly going to be a stylistic trait in the film which will run all the way through. I was very happy with the result, and my star Hanne was yet again absolutely amazing.

Today we were outdoors all day. It was hard, but we kept on schedule. The last shot, which was a complicated dolly shot did get a bit dark though. I am still very impressed with what my lighting crew can do with the old worn out equipment that they have, and everyone still seems to in high spirits. We were shooting the main scenes where Sarah’s mother tries to confront Sarah, and they turned out very touching, I was very happy with it. It did rain a little today, but were were so incredibly lucky that it always happened between setups, and it didn’t steal any precious shooting time.

Day one is over and all went… well.

We started out with a few hitches, one actor stuck in traffic and another misinformed on meet-up time, then we had the crappy weather. Luckily we were indoors all day. We finished two scenes and they both got to look beautiful thanks to Bertil, Caspar and Keith who did the lights. We are also shooting with a pro-35 adaptor with proper prime lenses, so the image is just absolutely stunning!

Here we go…

We are finally going to start the Shoot on my next Short Film: The Golden Hummingbird (Den Gyldne Kolibri). I have been working on this film for over three years now, and in the past three month I finally found my co-producers, Sune Liltorp and Kasper Nielsen from Plot Point Film (http://www.plotpoint.dk). I got my script developed, got my cast and crew together and tomorrow we’ll begin the on location adventure.

Just messing about with the camera rig that I will be using to shoot Pearl’s music video for her track: Stay

The rig is curtsey of Plotpoint film & Babel film. It consists of a Panasonic HV-200 with a pro35mm adaptor with nikon lenses. I will be using a 24mm, 35 and 50 mm lenses to shoot the video. Those lenses were the ones with the lowest F-Stop, allowing me to make extreme low dof at fairly low light situation.

The music is one of my own tunes.

The relevance of DPI when making DVD menus! there aren’t any!

Since I haven’t got anything particularly new media to show I might as well let you all in on what else Im doing at the moment.
DVD MENUS! hurray! No, seriously, Im working freelance for a company called GoVisual they do corporate videos and Im doing a DVD menu for their latest project. While working on this DVD I’ve had to tweak it a 100 times now, each time I show the client what I’ve done then they have changed. Finally they started asking the impossible of me. Or did they? I was asked to make a very small logo, with very small text on it more clear, so you could actually read it. I was not allowed to make it bigger though, as this would break the rules in their design manual for the company. Then I had to explain to them that this was totally impossible. Video does not work with the DPI principle, therefore you cannot squeeze more pixels into a certain area, you can’t increase the DPI!

Just a general update here:

At the moment I’m finishing off the post work on Kasper Skovsbøl’s recent film “The Fearless Lovers”. I finished editing the film around new year and now it’s just the post image works, such as visual effects as well as the colour grading, that are missing. Im doing the final pass on the visual effects this week. The visual effects on Fearless are going to be the best that I’ve ever done!

Kasper, Amalie and myself are working on the script for my next short. Amalie is producing the film and kasper is helping me with the writing. I went to see Thomas Glud, a pro-feature film writer here in Denmark, to help me out with sorting out the story. I wrote the story “The Golden Hummingbird” about 2-5 years ago, but then it was a treatment for a feature, which I don’t have the time or money for at the moment. The plan is to make a short based on the feature and then use the short to sell the feature later on. Thomas had lot’s of great advice on how I could keep the morale and “the point” of the story, while still making it incredibly short! So with his advice, kasper and I will now commence writing the first draft of the script.

On the VeeJay’ing front I’m looking towards the biggest gig yet! We’ll be playing at the Voxhall venue in Århus where they have a MASSIVE screen for my visuals! Can’t wait! I’m also hoping that I might be able to afford my new laptop before then as my old one keeps on crapping out on me! There is not enough RAM on the GFX card to support a decent resolution for the video clips which will show BIG TIME on the screen at voxhall. So I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll get a decent gig in my company soon so I can afford it!

On a final note, I’m working on making a company website for my little two man biz. I’ve already typed up, with the help of my dad (co-owner), what’s to go on it, so now I’m doing the design and layout. Here are some samples of the artwork I did for the site:

My idea was to take some shots of Århus (My own personal urban paradise!) and “paradise” them up a little, so give them an idyllic nature twist. So I’ve been looking for forest shots on the net where the perspective was fairly close to my own shots and compositing them in. When summer comes closer I’ll have another go at this, great big buildings with beautiful nature surrounding them…

The shoot was mainly for Miriam, who does make-up and such on short films etc. Miriam and Amalie arranged the whole thing and all I had to do was to turn up with a working camera.

Last week I completely forgot to post photos from our trip to Copenhagen. I was VeeJaying with Mimas again at the venue; Loppen in Christiania. The venue was very cool, never been before, so I really enjoyed it. As an additional treat we got to see Mono, the Japanese Post-Rock band, and on their first gig in Denmark ever. I’m Back! That’s right Bertil, I’m back! I was in Copenhagen last weekend to VeeJay for the band Mimas. Here are some shots that should give you an idea of what it looked like. I also have the videos on the way. Hopefully I will find the space on my server to post the whole thing online, if not be sure to check theMimas YouTube page.

On another Mimas note, I just got myself a new toy to VeeJay with. It’s a MPD24, don’t know it? Neither do I! I just went into the store and got myself a midi box with a shit load of buttons, sliders and dials. It’s great, now I got proper playback controls at my finger tips and a whole keyboard for the longer mix sequences. I know it, I’ve gone completely mad. I know have about 6 octaves of trigger buttons, a 4×4 buttons pad with 4 pad banks, 8 dials and 6 sliders, 7 if you include the modulator on the keyboard. Also, let’s not forget the cool little blue display on the very same drum sampler I bought today. When I bought it I had no idea that it was a drum sampler, all I could think about was the buttons. Here are some shots of my paper and tape solution to the MPD24:

Hi all, I’ve been so busy since I got back to DK that I have almost completely forgotten about writing on my blog, so here’s an update:I’ve started editing kasper skovsbøl’s latest film; The Fearless Lovers, and it’s looking great. The film was shot on HDcam and it’s Bertil who DoP’ed. Can’t wait till it’s finished, it’s going to be so great!Im also working on making live visuals for the band Mimas, which I’m really excited about. We will be performing with the visuals for the first time on the 10th of november. Can’t wait even though I’m also kinda nervous about it. I’ve never done this before and it’s been quite the adventure figuring out HOW to do it. There is so many VJ software and hardware solutions out there, and pretty much all of them are aimed at the artist to custom-make their own solution. I found a neat little program called Cell from Livid Instruments which is just a simple video mixer. I am editing my visuals in Final Cut and then afterwards I make each cut into clips and import them into my clip banks in Cell. I have already tested it all, and it works like a charm!I’m also planning my next film project, but it’s going to be awhile before I can do another film. There are simply so many other things I have to do before, but I think it’s a good thing as I am getting so many neat new experiences which constantly gives me ideas for stories.January Jaunt’s music video, which I directed back in January, has now gone on MTV USA! crazy huh?I’ve also started making more music, I’ve actually got a song with lyrics and everything. Anyway, I’m keeping busy and getting over the fact that I didn’t get on the Masters course at the NFTS.

Well, it seems that even though I re-installed podpress, my podcast is still out of order, which means that there a loads of video’s on my blog which will not show up! The good news is that all my YouTube links are still there, so those can still be seen. Since I will have to re-edit all my old video posts, I’m going to give my whole video thing a redesign! I will re-encode the videos for higher quality and organize them a bit better on my site. It will take a while before they will be up and playing again, but at least the experience should be better once I get it all online. In the mean time I have made a category tag called YouTube so you can easily access my working videos…

Well, It’s finally done. I spent about five days out in beaconsfield at the NFTS campus to finish my film. Three days for grading with Laura and two for sound with the tutors Guy and Chris. The first day was a bit messy as we had some problems with getting the footage onto the system, then we could finally get to the grade. Working with smoke is different, first of all you’ll find that it’s a pro software. It has all the tools it needs and nothing more. The Smoke system we used was of a Linux flavor and looked pretty fast, especially considering that it was working on full 1080p HD footage. We did have some compositing problems, but I really don’t get into that. By monday evening we finally had the final picture on tape. HDcam as well as DigiBeta. Also during the monday I started Pre-mix with Guy Hawke, basically we just cleaned my OMF export up, added proper fades, found atmos, foley and editing. This was so that when I on the tuesday would be mixing with Chris Pow, we’d only have to focus on the mixing itself. Mixing with Chris was great. All that dialog that I had been listening to for ages, flat and muffled, no offense to the sound guy Cuzio for he did a great job, but now that Chris played with it, it sounded deep and rounded. Great! We also got some useful feedback from the other tutors on campus. They pointed a very valid point out, that I had too much music, not as in using up too much time of the film, but that it was of too diverse genres, it was very much back to back at points, and that it often told too much about what was going on in the scene. We did our final mix and that was that. It was great finishing, I’m very happy with my first truly improvised film. From start to finish it was always pretty much my gut feeling which led the way and I think this technique works. I do feel that it would be nice with a script for a change now, so I’m enjoying working on several scripted projects at the moment. One of which is with an artist called Lennie Lee (lennielee.com), I am also competing in a little competition to shoot a 5 minute film on 16mm for the first years at the NFTS.
Next up is to go to Leif and Signe’s Wedding on the 21st sep and then the Bafta Screening of My Singing Girl on the 24th sep, then one more week of school and Im finished with the NFTS this time around. That is of cause unless I get the 5 minute film! Then I will be making this film in October. It is also in October that I will be starting to edit Kasper Skovsbøl’s film.
I better stop here before I get overwhelmed with all the stuff I have to do..

YAY!!! We finished shooting My Singing Girl!!! It was a WAR but we WON! lot’s of problems on this shoot, lot’s of weird accidents and locations to secure minutes before shooting. It didn’t rain, nobody died and we didn’t drop a single scene and that’s the main thing! I’m now looking into the post production for the film. I’m looking for an editor and sound mixer. I already have people in mind, but I’m also on a deadline so I’m just going to have to go out there and find some good post people! I want to score and soundtrack the film, so we have a nice mix. I have already found my composer, Leif N from January Jaunt, but I am still looking for the tracks for the film.Here are the first stills:

Hi all,

Had a great day today! I finished and handed in my application for the NFTS directors Masters course! and I started casting for my next film “My Singing Girl”. I loved getting back into directing. It’s such a kick! I know that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. We went through a simple scene and just used improv for most of the dialog and action. I also found that I got loads of good ideas for the scene just from watching the actors make up stuff!

Also, We’ve almost finished Malika’s application film. We worked thoughout last night finishing the special effects and doing the titles. I still haven’t heard from her if she’s actually finished it for tomorrow (the application deadline) but I’m sure she’ll make it. The shot above is from malika’s film and the youtube video underneeth is one of our special effects test we did before shooting the film.

I have been busy lately working on my next film project for school: My Singing Girl. I just finished the first draft of the script last night and just had my script review with Roger Crittenden, Jim O’Brien and Rob Richie. They all liked it, but I still have lot’s of editing to do and I need to redo my initial setup in the beginning. I have already set up my casting sessions for next week with the help of James Heath, my casting director, and I have got location scouting rolling with Malika, my producer and 1st AD. All in all I think I got everything under control for this film… for now… lol But of cause this is not the only stuff I have to do. I also have to edit Malika’s film over the weekend, finish the special effects and finish my application for the NFTS Directors MA course. I have to hand in the application before the 17th May, so the following week should be interesting!

Im shooting from the 28th May for 5 days. Can’t wait!

January Jaunt Gives An Agressive Concert

I went and saw the boys give an awesome, but short, concert at the Music Café on thrusday night. They played fairly well and the sound was good, the best part though was that they played so fucking aggressive. I have never seen them like this before. Non of them felt that they had played too well, but their energy pulled the audience completly into it and everyone loved it. Here are some shots I took of the event:

Hi all, I was at the FiSH film festival in Rostock last weekend with Kasper. We were there because we had gotten “Maria”, the film we made together, onto the festival. Unfortunatly we couldn’t win anything since were just that years selected guests of the festival, but it was still lots of fun getting our film screened along with so many others. The germans seemed to like it, even though it might have been to hard for most of them. They can’t handle all the sex, violence and masturbation…lol

Just got back from Denmark. Had a good week and a half in DK hanging out with all my old mates and sorting out the editing for my current film aswell as working on the January Jaunt music video. Can’t wait to finish off this film. I’m so curious as how it will turn out since I’ve done this one quite differently than my other films. Lot’s of improv and figuring out the shots on the set as we went along, which is very different than what I’m use to. So Im back in denmark now. Working on the January Jaunt music video and doing the initial cut for my NFTS personal project. I have asked Jacob Molberg to help me cut the film. It was also Jacob who helped me on Maria last year, so we already have a good idea of how to work together. Im looking very much forward to what Jacob can do with the footage. I will also post some stills when I get the oppotunity.
Mostly I have been relaxing a bit after finishing my film in London, tonight Im going out with all my DK mates. Can’t wait!

Im much better now and I am currently working on my first Personal Project at school. I have finished my treatment for my film and I am working on the casting and location scouting at the moment. I don’t have much time though as I will be shooting next week. In the middle of this MASS-POSTING session that I have found myself in, I just wanted to talk a little about my latest project. A musicvideo for January Jaunt (http://www.januaryjaunt.dk).Back in early december when I went back to denmark to attend the premiere of “Maria”, my last short film, I met up with the guys from January Jaunt and thay said that they, FINALLY, wanted me to make a decent music video for them. We then started talking ideas and it all ended up with me pulling one of my old ideas out of the hat. The whole concept is a bit weird, so bare with me:The whole concept is that they boys will be playing in a studio where serveral studio camera’s will be filming them. Next we have a guy to produce the images and mix in a mit of graphics once in awhile, finally this is all projected onto them. They wore some white shirts and t-shirts so we could see the motives on them and best of all… It all worked!We shot the video last wedensday and everything went well. The guys must have played the song over 40 times that day (evening/night/next morning) and we got everything on tape. HDCAM tape!!! heheAnyway, The video is being edited at the moment and when I get the word from the band I will release it on my site. I will see if I can’t be allowed to show off the dummy video I did of it.Thats it.

Hi all,

Been awhile, yet again, since I posted and as the title states, it’s become a practicle statistic that I post about 5 posts a month. But all the stupid coincidences aside!

It’s christmas and I have finished school for this year. I’m already back home in good ole’ Denmark to chill out and spend time with friends and family. The school ended with a BANG! We had Gilles MacKinnon come around and talk to us and the day before we had an Oliver Stone masterclass, so it’s been great! I’m still working on my final exercise of this year, our Spanish Steps films, but it’s still not there in the editing.

In the past few months I have been making a lot of music and I’m absolutely loving it! So I have actually put together a little collection which I’m just about ready to showcase. So I will be making some music videos over X-Mas featuring my own music.

Hi all,

Long time no blog. At school we’ve been given a new exercise called The Spanish Steps. We have to make a 3-Hander scene (A scene with three characters) and this time we can write dialog in, so its at a whole new level now! I presented my idea to our teachers last thursday and they seemed to like it, so I’ve gone ahead and started writing the script, but as it is right now, it’s too long! or atleast I think so. Usually we say a minute a page, and we have been given the maximum length of 5 minutes, and… well you guessed it, I am over 5 pages… I have to present my script on wedensday, so then I will find out if its a problem, thats unless I sort it out by myself before then.

The second thing I wanted to blog about was that my last film project, Maria, has finally come to a close and we are screening it for the first time on the 9th of December! This is going to happen at ØST FOR PARADIS (East of eden) art cinema in Århus at ten o’clock, and YES I will be able to make it! awesome! Maria, for me has been one of the best film making experiences that I have had in a long time, and thats no mystery since we had an awesome producer, a great crew and cast, and last but least, Its one of Kasper Skovsbøls ideas, script and his great personality as one of the main characters! Im sure I have blogged about the film before, so look it up.

Finally I wanted to start a new tradition on my site, a show of my mobile phone photos. This ofcause means lousy quality, but it also fun because there are so many “moments” among them, a special kind of sponanity about them… or maybe its just because I was drunk while taking them… who knows… they are fun nevertheless! Hi all, just got back from a little trip in Denmark. Had to get some more stuff over, see all my buddies and most importantly; take a look at the film project Maria since it got a deadline on the 1st of December!

Some of the most important stuff I brought back with me has been my external harddrives! I have my entire portfolio on there aswell as a lot of current and unfinished projects which I thought would be nice to have around. I also have a collection of editing, photo and sound resources like sound effects archive, photoshop templates for EVERYTHING and lots of other stuff.

I was digging through one of my old drives and found a film that I had completely forgotten that I ever made! Hi all,

I just got back from Denmark, was home to visit friends and family but also to pick up some stuff for my new place. Its in Bethnal Green which is in the Shoreditch area, really nice place. Today we’re starting our first exercises. The exercise we’re doing is called The “Breakfast” exercise and its basicly a breakfast scenerio. The special thing with this one is that we are not to use ANY dialog. I already got the idea for my film, so today I will be discussing it with the rest of the group and our tutors. Wish me luck!

Its friday and its been a long week at school. I wanted to post more, but could not, as I did not have the time and usually haven’t got internet access. Im looking forward to this weekend as its the first time I will have a real chance to see London aswell as getting to see the first appartment that I have been offered, so its all good. I really hope the appartment is decent since staying at the Generator Hostels is horrible! Its noisy, smelly and creepy! Can’t wait to move out!

What a day I’ve had today!

I started sleeping in late, then went out to investigate the area I was in (after which I posted the photo in the previous post). I then got a call from Majken who hadent heard from the guy who she was suppose to stay over with, so I went down to Liverpool station to pay her a visit, and there she was, sitting all by her lonesome at a Nero Coffe shop. We talked and realized that we had met before. Majken had called me about a month ago to ask if I could cut her documentary but I had said no because of all the film school stuff, but this is not the where I knew her from. She use to come down at the film workshop in Århus while she was working on one of her previous projects. Anyway! She called me about 3 days ago when she found out herself, that she also was going to London. She is beginning tommorrow at the University here in Shoreditch. So we met and went out for a drink, as her friend/contact diden’t show up. She then finally got a call from him and we aranged to meet at the Golden Heart pub on Commercial Street and got a few drinks with him and his friends. The friends left one by one and finally we decided that it was time to head home. We went down Brick Lane and went into an Indian resturant, which was really great, well that food anyway. And thats about it. Doesen’t sound like a long day, but with all the walking I’ve done it has become an EXTREMELY long day, my feet are so sore I really don’t know how Im going to last a week in this city.

Im finally here! Im staying at the holliday Inn on Old St. which is just right across from the school, well almost. Either way Im going to check out where the school is tomorrow, just so I know for monday. Its saturday night and the streets are full of people going out and the music in all the pubs have gotten the volume turned way up, just like back in århus, with the exception that there are twenty times more people on the streets here! Its late and I have a full day of adventuring in London to do tomorrow, so I think I will turn in. I will post pics tomorrow… I promise.

Hi all,

I haven’t written in awhile as I have been busy, working, tired, frustrated and so on, but that ‘should’ all be over now as I DID GET INTO THE FILM SCHOOL! and it’s first now, the evening before leaving for london, that I have found the peace to write something here again.

Hopefully they will keep us too busy in the first week as I will try to make some videos and post them on my site, you know, just to show you how I am getting on. I must say that the most frustrating thing about going over there was wheather I had a place to stay. Which, for awhile, I diden’t even though I had already booked my flight! But now I have a place to stay, and its nice an close to the school.

The school is in central London, in the east side, in the Tea Building (look it up in google.co.uk).

I was out on a film shoot where we had to reproduce a story about how the greatest cereal machine was created. We did this in the model landscape at the Jyst Model Jernbane Klub, which is a Model Club (if you diden’t catch that already). I will post some more photos when I feel like it!!

News – Maria is cut

We have now finished the final cut of the Maria film that I have been working on since April. Its taken a long time, but we are all now in agreement. The film has also been onlined to HD (shot on HDCAM), and it residing at the Filmworkshop (taking up about 331 GB) on their Raid server. I will begin the effects, such as removing boom mic’s, and other unwanted things that I have found in our lovely HD frames, and when done with that the colourgrading will commence.

I have also started writing on my next project “The Golden Hummingbird”.
SO stay tuned.

News – I diden’t NOT get in?!?

Hi there friends,
I got an email around 20 past 8 this evening saying that I was NOT chosen for the Fiction Direction course at The National Film & Television School (in london). They did say though that I have been chosen for a Nomination as a Reserve Candidate, which means that if one of the actual 6 chosen candidates can’t make it, financially, due to time, or just simply don’t actually want to, then I get their place on the course. It’s ofcause annoying that not only am I not on the course, but there still is a chance, which I could wait indefinatly for!?! Im getting pretty tired of waiting around. The actually selected students have to give their OKEY within two weeks, I hope they will notify me if there is anything, until then I just have to get on with things.

The good news is that I made it in the top 8 of 39 interviewed and 370+ applicants, and that I did it on my first try. Now I will definatly make my latest story “The Golden Hummingbird” and try to apply with it for the next round, thats ofcause if Im not the lucky bastard who gets in anyway!!!

KEEP THOSE FINGERS CROSSED!!! ITS NOT OVER TILL ITS OVER!!!

Yesterday I was out with January Jaunt to help them out getting som new press shots. We have done this before, but its never been done properly. Its always me getting around the rehearsal room and taking a few low light shots, which never turn out that well. This time it was different though, and a great new experience for myself. First of all, we had more time to do it, second was that we were doing outdoors shots aswell as indoors studio shots with proper lighting.

Los Marachas Kicks ASS!

Hi all,Last night we(Los Marachas) played at the chocolate factory (Chokolade frabrikken) in Århus, and it was amazing. There was a really good response from the audience, and I coulden’t keep up with the CDs. I recorded the concert and started to burn audio CDs with the concert stright after the guys finished playing, and not only that, I also took some shots while they were playing and did a CD cover for the CD, and with my trusty cannon IP4200 I printed those covers and went out to sell the CDs. So a great concert and a great response. I wont tell you about the playing itself, you simply have to download the 55 MB (and 48 minute) recording that I have a link to HERE (This is NOT in the regular podcast I have!!! I might make some samples later though?!?).

028. Los Marachas Rehearsal

My first Macbook production. Recorded and cut on the macbook. This was recorded at the Los Marachas rehearsal room and we were trying out a new gimmick… I was recording the sound on my G5 and after the guys were done playing I started burning audio CDs as quickly as I could. I was able to burn 5 CDs in 10 min. The idea is that we would do this live since Los Marachas is an improv band and therefore does not have any albums or songs. After the shows done I then start burning the CDs and the audience can buy the concert they just heard… fun huh?

027. Stop Motion – Crappy Spaceship

This is just a little test to try out some stop-motion techniques. I was watching star trek and wanted to reproduce some of the effects, this little clip is just the first step.
Shot on my Nikon D70 with the “Crappy” spaceship mounted on a little lego rotating platform, the second part is a little composite… not a very convincing composite, but it was quick and kinda funny to make… the best part is the way the shadows and highlights work on the surface!
It is these shadows and highlights which makes it worth it to photograph models, rather than making them 3D, but also the about of time it takes to make! Anyway, more comming soon.

Well, Im almost there now! I have been working intensly for the past few weeks on my application form for the National Film & Television School in London. Its a few pages with some intense questions, and then you have to submit a Treatment for a film you intend to make aswell as a film you have directed. The main problem is that the film that Im submitting isen’t done yet, we just recently shot it! Im still editing it, but since they mentioned that teknical skill will not be judged then I think its better to show them something that I have recently made, rather than showing something old… This film is definetly the best directing that I have done to date! The REAL problem is that I have to mail everything on monday, to make sure it arrives before the DEADLINE!

Finally som real news accompanied by a video!!!

Recently I have been working on my application for The National Film and Television School in London. Its a lot of work. I have to fill out the general forms, answer some questions about myself and why Im applying, aswell as submitting a film, a treatment, and an evaluation of the film I sent. So there is plenty to tend to. Right now Im working on editing the film I will be sending, and its not going so well as I had hoped. The worst part is that I have to send it in a week or so! The reason for the late editing of the film is that its first recently that we shot it! so there was never much time to begin with. I will post some more info on how its going later, for now just enjoy my little crappy film which is all about getting no where in the editing room.

This is a music video that I helped to finish. Kristina, who worked on the project and asked me to help her finish it. She was the director, i think?, and in anycase she was responsible for the editing and that the band was satisfied. I mearly did some reedits, change of some colours and fixed some of the odd grading they had on it. It was a bit of a challange as she did no longer have the Raw footage anymore, only the master and one tape with a little bit of raw footage, but I think it turned out alright in the end, what do you think?

This is a spot which I produced, directed and edited, aswell as the 3D effects etc. Its my brother and his friends who are in it and my good friend Anders Elgaard who is DOP. We shot the spot in only 2 days and edited it in a week or so. It was edited on a Discreet Edit* system down at the filmworkshop in Århus. The 3D stuff was done in 3D Studio Max 4, and the compositing and final effects were done in After Effects 5.5. For those who don’t understand what the hell the voiceover is talking about heres a little about the spot itself:Børnekulturhuset (Childrens Art/workshop house)Thir advertising a place where children (up to the age of 18) can make all kinds of art projects, films, TV, books, theater etc. They present an idea and then they will be given some money to make the project. thats about it.

Four young guys went to the states and drove across the continent while filming the things they did and saw. Very funny! and actually not a bad show! anyway… I did this intro to their show. Sorry about the quality, the file had already been encoded once before, just not very well, and I can’t be asked to get the original Beta tape and capturing it again! so you’ll have to make do!

This is a little animation I made some time ago. I wanted to do a SouthPark style cartoon, ofcause southpark is actually done with an animation software package, but I felt that I wanted to try it hardcore style! So I got out the paper, cardboard, siccors and glue and got to work. Its shot on my trusty Sony PC-110 and recorded via firewire to iStopmotion and finally edited in FCP. The sounds were recorded beforehand and used within iStopmotion to animate the mouth etc. iStopmotion RULEZ!

I was just in the middle of cleaning up my harddrives on my G5 when I found an OLD version of my website. It was way back from when I did all the coding myself and insisted on it being done in notepad or something… back in my PC days. As I was looking through file structure and laughing at myself I found a folder called VideoContent… Hmm interesting… well I found loads of my old showreel pieces aswell as projects which I had completely forgotten! Anyway – to the point! I decided to encode (re-encode them!) to podcasting and put them on my site, so watch out! lots more comming soon!

My very first stanley video! Shot on a sony PC-110 (total shot) and a PD-100 (The rest), and then a playfull time in after effects 5.5. The sound was taken from my PC-110 as it records suprisingly good sound under loud conditions (An ULTRA smooth limiter…!?).
